2012 New England Regional Convention – Registration is Open

If you are planning to attend the 2012 New England Regional Convention, now is the time to submit your registration by clicking here! This year, the cost per attendee is $40. We hope to see many attendees this year. Your registration covers your welcome bag, 4 meals, all materials for your workshops, and more.

Please remember that the deadline for reserving discounted rooms through our partner hotel, the Hampton Inn Bedford, Burlington , is February 24. The discounted rate of $89/night is not guaranteed beyond that date.

Regional Convention Registration Scholarships Available

The Region is holding a contest for eight registration scholarships ($40 each) for this year’s Regional Convention. Each chapter may have up to two entries only in order to spread out the winners. Michael Rood Transfer Opportunity Scholarship – deadline extended!

Are you planning to transfer for the Spring 2012 or Fall 2012 semester? Be sure to apply for the Michael Rood Transfer Opportunity Scholarship, offered by the New England Region Alumni Association, which can give you $100 to cover the cost of transfer applications! The application is very simple and can be found by clicking here. All that is needed is a 500-word essay and a letter of recommendation from a chapter adviser. Those two items, along with the linked form, must be received by February 20, 2012.

The scholarship is named for Michael Rood, long-time adviser to the Alpha Lambda Zeta chapter of Asnuntuck Community College. He is also a member of the Regional Advisory Board and former regional coordinator. Through his advising within his own chapter and his presentations at regional events, Dr. Rood has helped literally thousands of Phi Theta Kappa members prepare for transfer admission.

Again, the deadline has been extended to February 20th, so please spread the word to your fellow members now! If you have any questions, contact NERA co-adviser Diane Hutchins.

Submit Your Work for the 2012 Honors Anthology

Each year, the New England Region publishes the Honors Anthology, a collection of the best writing and 2D art by Phi Theta Kappa members in our six states. Writing and art can be on any topic, and there are no minimum or maximum lengths. We especially encourage you to submit papers or 2D art you’ve already prepared for classes! Why let your hard work go to waste when you can use it to get published and have another line for your résumé?

Submissions can be made any time before February 1. The best submissions are selected for publication in the Honors Anthology. All you need to do is send an e-mail! For more information, or to submit your work, write to anthology@neptk.org.

Meet Our Transfer Fair Colleges!

If you’re planning on coming to this weekend’s Regional Leadership Conference, you’re in for yet another great regional transfer fair! Between 1 – 2:30 PM on Saturday, October 15 at Great Bay Community College in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, we will be welcoming two dozen colleges that specifically want to recruit Phi Theta Kappa members from New England. We are especially excited to welcome our three Platinum Sponsors: Bay Path College, Simmons College, and Southern New Hampshire University. In particular, Southern New Hampshire University is our General Session Sponsor and will be presenting about its admissions and scholarship opportunities on Saturday morning. Bay Path College will be sponsoring our Regional Dinner on Friday night, and Simmons College will be sponsoring our advising workshops throughout the weekend. The 2011 Regional Leadership Conference is almost here! If you haven’t had a chance to register yet, please find information on how to do so now by clicking here.

Our full schedule is now available for viewing. We are also happy to announce the full list of colleges that will be attending our transfer fair! A formal page with admissions information and links will be launched soon, but the colleges attending are: American College of History & Legal Studies, Bay Path College, Bentley University, Bryant University, Champlain College, Elmira College, Granite State College, Husson University, Lesley College, Marymount Manhattan College, New England College, Northeastern University, Roger Williams University, Saint Joseph College (CT), Saint Joseph College (ME), Salve Regina University, Simmons College, Southern New Hampshire University, Unity College, University of Rhode Island, University of Southern Maine, and University of Tampa. In addition, the Johns Hopkins University Carey School of Business and Marlboro College will be serving as sponsors.

In addition, our conference will be featuring some new special events! On Friday night, we are excited to have a special interactive transfer admissions workshop, for both students and advisers, hosted by the New England Transfer Association. We will also be holding a fun workshop on leadership styles, presented by our very own Alpha Pi Rho chapter from Manchester (NH) Community College. On Saturday, we’ll be holding more workshops that ever, all built around great themes to help you and your chapter succeed this year. As always, we’ll also be mixing in plenty of fellowship, including a game night and a raffle.

2011 Regional Leadership Conference Is Coming!

The 2011 Regional Leadership Conference will be held on Friday, October 14 and Saturday, October 15 at Great Bay Community College in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. This year’s Regional Leadership Conference will feature outstanding workshops for students, advisers, and alumnae/i; special sessions on preparing for transfer and scholarship applications; the all-important International Headquarters update; and the 2011 Regional Transfer Fair, which will now be held only at our fall conference. The full schedule will be released soon!

Registration costs $30 per member if you register by September 20, $35 by September 30, and $40 after that. Please click here for the registration page. Checks should be made payable to “Phi Theta Kappa New England” and sent to Mr. Charles Mastrangelo, New England Region of Phi Theta Kappa, P.O. Box 514, Dighton, MA 02715.

The official conference hotel is the America’s Best Inn in Portsmouth. Chapters reserving rooms by September 30 are eligible for discounted rates; please contact Regional Coordinator Charles Mastrangelo for details.
